Embracing Awe
"Awe-inducing events may be one of the fastest and most powerful methods of personal change and growth."
(Florence Williams, The Science of Heartbreak)
Recently, I have been learning about "Awe."
I just have to share!
My goal: To convince you of the merits of Embracing "Awe"
When did you last experience "Awe"?
The eclipse.
A starry night.
A child's hug.
Do you remember how you felt?
Did you know:
People who regularly experience "Awe" are more resilient, more at peace & experience deeper connection with others.
Curious?
Awe: The Feeling
So...what is it?
"Awe inspires the wish to let shine, to acknowledge & to unite." (Brene Brown, Atlas of the Heart)
So what is "Awe"?
How it looks... Acknowledging Beautiful. It looks like "drink it in."
How it feels... Humility. It makes us feel small... in a good way.
What it does... Creates Human Connection. "It makes us feel connected to ourselves, to the universe & to each other." (Brene Brown, Atlas of the Heart)
For me, a cup of tea, a sunrise, and a mountainside bursting with wildflowers. For you?
Awe: The Science
So... what's happening?
"Our brains make multitudes of neural connections that it otherwise doesn't. It's an attempt to understand that beauty." (Florence Williams, The Science of Heartbreak)
Seriously. Our brains thrive on "Awe".
