The Secret Garden

"Sometimes... since I've been in the garden...
I've looked up through the trees at the sky and I have had a strange feeling of being happy as if something was pushing and drawing in my chest and making me breathe fast. "

-Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden

Burnett published The Secret Garden in 1911.

It is the story of a 10 year-old girl who finds healing for herself and friend, Colin, through the observation, tending and honoring of The Secret Garden.

I recently read the book to my own 10 year-old daughter and have been deeply moved by its insight and wisdom.

This month...

May I share its wisdom with you?

Breaking Ground
“At first people refuse to believe that a strange new thing can be done, then they begin to hope it can be done, then they see it can be done--then it is done and all the world wonders why it was not done centuries ago.” (Burnett, The Secret Garden)

I love words like...

Creation
Imagination
Innovation

The last chapter of The Secret Garden explains:
Our minds are the gateway to such creative power.

An herbal tea farm...

Has it ever been done?
Nope.

"Good!" I say.
"Let's give it a try!"

"One of the new things people began to find out in the last century was that thoughts—just mere thoughts—are as powerful as electric batteries—as good for one as sunlight is." (Burnett, The Secret Garden)

And what, dear retail partner, would you set your mind towards just now?
May I offer you these words of inspiration:

It can be done!

What Are You Tending?
"Where you tend a rose my lad, a thistle cannot grow." (Burnett, The Secret Garden)

Colin and Mary, protagonists of the Secret Garden, are filled with resentment, anger and hopelessness.

In short, they are tending:

Thistles

And then...
They discover The Secret Garden.

And they focus on:

Its wonder
Its awe

And they begin tending:

Roses

My farm is also tended...

With wonder & awe

And I have learned...

To tend that which I desire to see flourish

Our Gardens
“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” (Burnett, The Secret Garden)

Into My Fields...
Have come hundreds.

They inhale.

Sip.
Admire.
They are healed.

From one recent visitor:
"I would like to come ... sit and enjoy the blessings of our beautiful mother earth. Could I sit in your fields? The purity of your teas are filled with positive energy." -Anonymous

The world is my garden.
What an honor it has been to share it.

"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - that which is excellent or praiseworthy - meditate on these things." Ph. 4:8, Bible

Dear Partner,
It has been such a blessing to share the secrets of my garden journey with you.
This month, my blessing...
May we have courage to do that which has never been done
May we tend that which we desire to flourish
May we see the world as a garden and share our blessings and bounty with joy

As always:

Thank you

I'm honored to be your herbal tea farmer.

Be well,
Shannon
