“For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.”
― Carl Sagan, Contact

The Nature of Space

Our Solar System...

When my daughters were little we built a scaled model of our solar system in our neighborhood
The Sun: A soccer ball...at our house
Neptune (the 8th planet): A pea...8 football fields away
That's a lot of space.

An Atom...

Remember that Bohr-Model from Chemistry?
          The Nucleus: Orbited by electrons
Physicists Say: 99.99% of an atom is actually empty space.

Physical matter is a microcosm of space.

What I'm learning...
That Vast Emptiness: It Isn't.

Distance: The Space Between Us
“We are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically.” -Neil DeGrasse Tyson

My teas travel vast distances to reach you.

Alaska ... Iowa... Arizona .. and beyond!
You know who you are.

The space between me + you seems so vast.

But filling it: the connection between us.

That distance ends and begins with a teabag...
   Placed into your cup.
      You sip.
         Then move outward.

Taking my offering + gratitude with you.

The space we inhabit together increases.
And it is filled...
With Connection + Gratitude.

Silence: The Space Between Words
"When you contemplate the unfathomable depths of space, or listen to the silence in the early hours just before sunrise, something within you resonates with it. As if in recognition."

-Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth

The Words:
    From guests visiting my farm.

Their Expressions:
    "delightful"
    "healing"
    "blessing"

Between The Words?
It is silent.
But, not empty.
The space between the words holds our shared experience.

What appears to be empty is filled with:

Their beauty-filled experience in my fields.
Your peace-filled moment sipping this tea.

And, my gratitude.

Growth: The Giving of Space
"Man's mind and spirit grow with the space in which they are allowed to operate." -Krafft A. Ehricke

It turns out the universe is expanding.

In 1929, Edwin Hubble was first to observe this. The further away the galaxy the faster it recedes into space.

As a farmer, I love watching:
Tiny spring seedlings
     Grow beautifully
          Into the vast space

            I offer them.

It turns out children (of every age) grow too.
Like my plants, we thrive when allowed space to explore, learn, grow.
As I release the discomfort of change, I am grateful that my plants and my universe remind me:

Growth is a Breathtaking + Beautiful
Law of the Universe

"Our world hangs like a magnificent jewel in the vastness of space.

Every one of us is a part of that jewel.

A facet of that jewel.
And in the perspective of infinity, our differences are infinitesimal."

-Fred Rogers

Dear Herbal Tea Retail Partner,
As you consider the vast space we have been given, my blessing is that you are reminded... what appears to be empty is, in truth, very full.

Filled with:

The silent space between sips of tea.
The deep connection that you have to the soil and plants on my farm.
The breathtaking wonder of watching all things grow and expand.
Your beautiful support of my business.

My heartfelt gratitude.

As always:

Thank you

I'm honored to be your herbal tea farmer.

Be well,
Shannon
